Acer Aspire One 751H/AO751H and Windows 7 (information, drivers..everything!)

Acer Aspire One 751H/AO751H and Windows 7 (information, drivers..everything!)

There are few unfortunate and sorry people whose Aspire 751H came loaded with the Windows Vista, which is certainly not the OS of choice for netbooks. For those people with XP-running 751H are still pretty satisfied as it works pretty decent, although not as good as netbooks that come with Atom N280 processors. Windows 7 is reported to be running as good as XP and brings lots of eye candy and useful features to your netbook.

Windows 7 has been tried and tested on the Acer Aspire 751H and it runs it really nicely. However, to get it working perfectly, you will need to install the right drivers and here is the list of REQUIRED drivers for your Aspire 751H

How to view full screen Youtube videos on Acer Aspire 751H?

It is not an unknown fact that the Aspire 751h chokes even while performing some light weight tasks like watching a basic youtube video. However, if you use Vista or Windows 7, you can upgrade the graphic drivers for the Intel GMA 500 that will enable to view not only the basic Youtube videos smoothly, but also HD content and that too in HD!

Acer Aspire One 751H compared with Packard Bell Dot M/A

Netbook Italia (Italian) has done some serious comparison between the Acer 751H netbook and Packpard Bell Dot netbook.

  • both have 1GB of RAM and 160GB HDD with 5400 rpm
  • graphics – Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 500 for the Aspire One 751H and ATI Radeon X1270 for the Dot M/A, thus making the Packcard Bell more powerful than the Acer 751H.
  • same ports and interfaces, 5-in-1 card reader, audio jacks, USB ports, WiFi b/g
  • The Aspire One 751H come with a WEAKER Intel Z520 Atom processor whereas the Dot M netbook comes with an AMD Athlon 64 L110 a 1.2GHz. Despite slower clock speed, it is actually FASTER and more POWERFUL.
  • However, the Packard Bell netbook comes with Vista Home Basic or Premium as OS which is slower than the Windows XP OS that comes with the Aspire One 751H
  • same 6-cell battery in both of the netbooks

Atom Z processors is STILL going to be available for netbooks – Earlier rumors were false!

Atom Z processors is STILL going to be available for netbooks – Earlier rumors were false!

You must have read our news regarding Intel not allowing Z-series Atom on netbooks. Intel has reacted to the gossip, and answered that they got the content wrong. Also a concerned person came forward and claimed it as misunderstood rumor.

“Rumors of ‘industry sources’ stating that Intel is no longer taking orders for Atom Z processors or ending production by end of year are 100% inaccurate”.

There you have it! Intel is still going to supply the Z-series Atom to the netbook vendors. Although we do not know whether to get happy by this news as we found Z520 processor in the Acer Aspire 751H slower than the N270/N280.

Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T: Chassis of a netbook, Heart of a notebook – this is what Aspire One 751H should have been!

Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T: Chassis of a netbook, Heart of a notebook – this is what Aspire One 751H should have been!

A lot of people have complained about Acer Aspire One 751H performance. Heck, we even got news that Acer is going to slow down the production of its 751H models as these models are not selling that well. Perhaps that is the reason Acer is introducing a model under its Timeline series that comes with the chassis of Aspire One 751H and uses Intel ULV SU3500 CPU that runs at 1.4GHz.

Also, instead of the usual Intel GMA 950 graphics that can support only upto 2GB of RAM, it will be using Intel GMA 4500MHD chipset that can handle upto 4GB of RAM. The upcoming Microsoft’s OS, Windows 7 will love the extra RAM.

One of the concerns of choosing a non-Atom processor can be a battery life. Well, do not worry about that as it promises 8 hours of battery life, which is on par with all the latest netbooks.

Commentary: Many netbook companies market netbooks as devices to *just* surf the web and for doing basic office editing. But, we all know that they are capable of doing much more than that. Now, with the use of ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) processors in netbooks, the boundary line between notebooks and netbooks gets even more blurred.

At first blush, it may seem fantastic, but we are pretty sure that it won’t be as cheap as regular netbooks which retail under $450.

Acer Aspire One 751 coming to US

Acer’s first 11.6-inch netbook, AO751H is soon going to make its appearance in US in coming few weeks. The netbook will made available in all major electronic stores (Walmart, J&R, Radio Shack, Amazon, Target etc).

I hope that it comes to US with the 6-cell battery and not the small 3-cell battery which gives just upto 2.5 hours of use.

ASUS EEE PC 1101HA Seashell – first 11 inch EEE PC!

ASUS EEE PC 1101HA Seashell – first 11 inch EEE PC!

For the first time, ASUS is going to unveil its first 11.6-inch netbook, the EEE 1101HA. The EEE 1101HA is equipped with the Atom Z520 or Z520 processor and comes with a gig of RAM. It has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.

Two types of batteries are planned for it:

  1. 2200mAh which claims to give you 9.5 hours of use
  2. 2800mAh which claims to give you 11 hours of use

Commentary: I am unable to make out why the ASUS is doing the mistake which the Acer did with their Aspire 751 by equipping it with the Z520 processor. Also, what’s up with the 2200mAh battery ASUS? How can one get 9.5 hours out of it? Too many questions!
