Toshiba Portege M930 – Preview
Another product on show at CES 2012 last week was Toshiba’s new convertible Portege M930 notebook, which can transform itself into a tablet. The Portege M930 features a 13.3-inch display and packs a Core i5 Sandy Bridge processor with 4GB RAM and a respectable 256GB SSD for storage.
Toshiba Portege M930 is a departure form the usual notebook-to-tablet conversion process of swivelling the screen around then folding it down. With the Toshiba M930 the top of the display must be pushed back until it faces the opposite way, then fold it down over the keyboard like a normal lid, only this way the screen is now face-up.
Luckily the whole mechanism feels pretty solid, unlike some slider-type convertibles in the past, and the hinge seems durable enough to withstand countless conversions. The versatility of the Portege M930 comes at a price; the Portege M930 weighs in at 4.2 pounds, which is pretty hefty in the age of the ultrabook, but it’s still pretty portable. The height sits at 1.1 inches. Pricing and release date are all yet to be announced.
Port-wise, Portege M930 has 2 USB 2.0 ports, SDcard slot, a full-sized Ethernet port and HDMI port.
