Gemini Devices JoyTab Tablets – Preview
UK-based Gemini Devices is introducing its line of JoyTab tablets, entry-level slates available in 7-, 8-, and 10-inch form factors and priced at $190, $220, and $300 respectively, at least in equivalent dollars.
The JoyTab 7 is, surprise surprise, the 7-incher and runs on a monocore 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU, with a dual Mali-400 graphics controller for 3D acceleration. It has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Inside the JoyTab 7 tablet has 512MB of DDR3 RAM, which should be a bit faster than the DDR2 offered in most tablets. 4GB storage space, VGA web cam, microSD card, and 6 hours of battery life are all par for the course.
Connectivity options are OK too – mini-USB and mini-HDMI as well as WiFi-n. The 8-inch JoyTab 8 ups the processor to a 1.2GHz ARM chip, while the flagship JoyTab 10 Rev 2 packs a dualcore 1GHz Rockchip processor, and justifies the extra outlay with a 10.1-inch 1024 x 768 pixel display. The Rev 2 includes 1GB RAM and 16GB of storage, and also offers a 2MP rear-facing camera. All three tabs feature Android Ice Cream Sandwich.
