Budget electronics manufacturer Coby has announced plans to launch five new tablets in Q1 2012. The slates will feature displays from 7 inches to 10 inches, yet all five models will sport 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPUs running Android 4.0 ICS and capacitive touchscreen displays. Each will be WiFi-enabled with HDMI connectivity. RAM will be offered at up to 1GB and the devices will ship with up to 32GB of storage.

We suspect that anything less than 1GB of RAM with lowly Cortex A8 architecture will be firmly stuck at the bottom of benchmark tables, but we’ll hold fire ’til we can back our suspicions with stats. Buyers will be looking for access to the full Android Market in 2012, but that hasn’t yet been promised.

Until now, Coby’s apps have all been limited to third-party app stores, though those tablets were designed for antiquated versions of the Android OS not optimized for tablets.
