Archos In Turbo Mode By Xmas

  • Sharebar

archos-g9-tabletsArchos has confirmed that it intends to offer the Archos 80 Turbo and Archos 101 G9 Turbo slates before Christmas. The upgraded tablets will sport 1.5GHz dualcore CPUs, instead of the 1GHz and 1.2GHz processors found in the standard Archos tabs.

The tablets are expected to retail for around 350 euros, though as yet there have been no official announcements about US availability or prices.

The Archos 80 and 101 G9 both feature Android 3.2 Honeycomb, giving full access to the official Android Market, and marking the French company’s transition from half-baked budget slate manufacturer to premium player. So the software is in place, now for the hardware. And the arrival of punchy dual-core processors should help.

Archos has announced that their Archos 80, Archos 101 and G9 tablets will get their Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 upgrade soon. Archos uses ARM processors TI OMAP4, which is compatible with the newest android operating system. TI OMAP4460 will be clocked at 1.5GHz.

G9 tablet has only 512MB of RAM, so even with Ice Cream Sandwich it will not multitask well, but 80 and 101 should benefit from the upgraded processors and OS. All Archos tablets are budget tablets so having 1.5GHz frequency of their chips and new Ice Cream Sandwich OS Archos make great budget tablets.
