Fujistu UH900 review

  • Sharebar

Fujistu makes great miniature computers. In the year 2007, Fujitsu unveiled U1010/U820 and in the consecutive year, they came out with another miracle, Fujitsu U2010/U820. The Fujistu U1010 was a fairly underpowered device – used 800MHz processor. But,then, they are not meant to run Halo or something that is equally processor intensive.

Now, Fujistu has unleashed UH900, Fujistu’s 3rd micro computer. This micro computer comes with a Z-series processor that runs at 1.6GHz clock speed. The Z-series is pretty power-sipping processor and is famous for great battery life.

The Fujistu UH900 is very nicely built device, which is a very common property among all Fujistu computers. It has a 5.6-inch display with a mind-boggling resolution of 1280×800. Running Windows 7 Home Premium as its OS, it comes with Intel GMA 500 graphic chipset which together with Atom Z530 CPU, gives pretty decent performance for a ultra small netbook.

The Fujistu UH900 is even smaller than the SONY VAIO P which is a fairly small device, also touted as Pocket PC computer. It comes in variety of colors

When we are talking about a device so small, battery life concerns do arise in our minds. Fujistu somehow managed to fit in 1800mAh. In comparison, my SONY VAIO P comes with a 2100mAh battery. Granted, the size of the battery is bit bigger in the latter but then so is the overall size, especially when take into consideration that the VAIO P has a much bigger 8-inch display while the Fujitsu has smaller 5.6-inch display.

It has a display which support multi-touch too. There is a headphone on the left side of the device. WiFi on/off switch is on the right side of the device along with the power port.

There are buttons on either side of the display. You get 62GB SSD for storage which should be more than enough unless you wish to carry GIGs of movies or songs.

Keyboard

As it is common with all small devices, the UH900 has a very compact keyboard; just good enough for hunt and peck typing. Since the key size is so small, do not even think about touch typing on this little device.

Wait, there is no touchpad! How do you control mouse pointer?

Don’t panic, there is  a small nub just on top-right of the keyboard. This allows you to control the mouse pointer while walking around

Since, Fujistu expects that you will be using the device while walking too. Left and right click buttons are naturally placed over the keyboard
