Core i7 notebooks planned by MSI – based on Intel PM55 chipset

Two notebooks in its GT series that will be based on Intel’s Core i7 mobile quad-core CPU have been planned by MSI. The GT740 and GT640 are both a part of MSI’s Gaming series and besides the Core i7 CPU, both will complement Nvidia’s Geforce GTS 250M graphics with 1GB of DDR3 memory.

Notebooks are based on Intel’s PM55 chipset and is paired with Intel’s Core i7-720QM quad-core CPU working at 1.6GHz clock speed and features 6MB of cache. Other specs for these two SKUs include, Nvidia’s GTS 250M with 1GB of DDR3 memory, 4GB of DDR2 667/800 memory, Gigabit LAN, 802.11bgn WiFi, 500GB 5.400RPM hard drive, eSATA port, Dsub and HDMI outputs and will be shipped with  a 6-cell 4800mAh battery.
GT740 and GT640, both differ in the dimensions, weight and of course the size of the screen. The GT740 is, 395x278x35,5‐39,5mm, with 17-inch 1680×1050 glare screen, 3.5kg with a 6-cell battery. The GT640 is 358x259x27‐32mm dimensions, there with 15.4-inch screen and same resolution and 2.8kg with the same battery.

The GT740 is being sold for €1499 for the mentioned SKU, while the smaller GT640 will be for €1399.
