HTC To Run Sony Playstation Games

HTC will reportedly become the first third-party manufacturer to secure Sony Playstation certification for their devices – after Sony announced in early 2011 their intention to allow manufacturers of Android smartphones and tablets to run their games.

Any manufacturer with the Playstation certification would be given access to Sony’s back catalog of games, and HTC is first in line. Products won’t reach the shelves before the second half of 2012, though experts reckon either HTC or Sony might elaborate at the MWC at the end of the month.

Lately HTC has fallen back in the Android ecosystem, leading the company to announce it would concentrate on higher-end gadgets rather than flooding the market with mediocre devices (not a direct quote). HTC hopes Playstation certification, in combination with their Beats Audio technology will put their devices back on the Android map.
