Samsung has released a new ultra-thin optical drive, the SE-218BB DVD writer, which the company proudly touts as the world’s thinnest ODD.
The external drive is selling for just $60 and the company hopes it will find enthusiastic uptake amongst ultrabook and tablet owners. At a mere 14mm thick, the new drive is ’18% thinner than conventional DVD writers’and 8% lighter than Samsung’s standard optical disk drive.
The drive can be connected via USB, and is compatible with PCs, Macs, and devices running Android Honeycomb 3.1 and later. And it’s on sale now.
