Rumors have died down with unveiling of Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet Samsung has brought to MWC in Barcelona.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 gets showcased at this year’s MWC to compete with popular iPad mini. Galaxy Note 8.0 weighs 0.74 pound (336 grams), while iPad mini is lighter weghing 0.69 pound (312 grams). Like other tablets, Samsung added menu, home, and back key as well as support of S Pen. The rear 5MP camera sits in the middle on top, while from camera has been placed on the upper right side. There are two speakers placed on the bottom, where you can also find Micro-USB port and place for the S Pen. On the right edge we have SIM card slot and microSD card slot. Left edge hosts IR blaster and volume rocker.
Note 8.0 has Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS with premium upgrade included and with TouchWiz UI on top of it. Note 8.0 is 3G tablet (can be used as a huge phone), with support of the GLONASS satellite navigation system, but unfortunately, in US we’ll only be able to get Wifi only (802.11 a/b/g/n both 2.4GHz and 5GHz) tablet.
Galaxy Note 8.0 specs include 1080p HD 5MP rear camera with auto-focus, and Geo-tagging, front facing 1.3MP camera for a video chat. 8-inch capacitive, multi-touch LCD display has 1280 x 800 resolution and 189 ppi pixel density. Choosing an LCD display will save some money for Samsung and hopefully lowers the asking price as well. The IR blaster and Peel Remote TV remains. Peel now supports NetFlix and Blockbuster among other streaming services, Samsung smart TV is there as well.
Note 8.0 features 1.6GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor with 2GB of RAM. Storage will start at 16GB, optional 32GB, both expandable by up to 64GB via microSD card.
Still no word about its costs, but given the first impressions, S Pen capabilities (with hand rejection), premium update, SD card support, solid maker and plenty of apps in the Google Play store, Galaxy Note 8, if priced right should be a very good choice for a tablet. No support of 4G, or even 3G just sucks large! Hopefully, the price will reflect that.
As expected Samsung keeps its guns under cover. Galaxy S IV and S IV mini will get their very own spotlight later in a separate unveiling event.
