Samsung Series 5 with Chrome OS

In the recently concluded Google I/O2011 in San Francisco, Samsung showcased the outing of the official Chrome OS Ultraportable. Samsung Series 5 ultraportable notebook was said to be ready for shipping around June and it is geared for a wide market including entrepreneurs, educational institutions and general consumers. Samsung ultraportable notebook is known as the Samsung Series 5 and boasts of a 12.5 inch screen with a rig that is less than 1 inch (0.79in to be exact). Samsung really took time to address the battery technology they called PowerPlus that can ideally handle 8.5 hours of active usage or 5 hours of continuous video playback. There is also an included deal with Verizon with 100MB data to be tossed for 3G models but it ends in 2 years.
The hardware felt very robust, stiff and absolutely durable and it is pretty much like the special edition Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Other notebooks on the same prices range of around $450 are overshadowed when it comes to the overall design. Now, let us look at some important details that you’ve been waiting for. The display of the Series 5 boasts of 1280×800 pixels and offers sharp and crisp imagery. The viewing angles at a glance were absolutely refined and for the price, that was actually a surprising detail. The keyboard was well designed and the touch pad was absolutely gorgeous. Hopefully, other brands will take cue on these details.
The Series 5 is said to be available in 2 colors namely Titan Silver and Arctic White. The keyboard is chic-let style and it will also be available in a multi gesture touch pad. You will also love the instant wake from sleep feature as well. Let us look at the other details. There is the included mic and headphone combo jack and 2 USB 2.0 ports. The SD card slot is mounted on the front area. There is also a SIM card slot. The battery is non-removable which quite a disappointment is for some but come to think of it, it has started to become a trend. On the F-Key section of the keyboard, there are additional features. The only issue with the hardware would have to be the hinge because the kid is on the heavier side and if you tilt it too low, it closes.
When in use, the machine was fast and zippy and it can handle numerous windows with numerous open tabs. It can handle several functions without any noticeable lag. Overall, you will find this very suitable for heavy use and that is why it is more addressed for business and educational use. Nonetheless, the Samsung Series 5 with Chrome OS might also be very useful for numerous consumers especially now that cloud systems are becoming more and more popular.
We will definitely see a lot more regarding this notebook when it becomes released for the consumers. Nonetheless Samsung said that hardware is the final design.
