Micro-blogging giant Twitter has overhauled its website and mobile apps. Photos and videos can now be integrated into feeds and content can now be suggested according to user’s tastes. Twitter claims that a whole new set of tabs will simplify the service for its 200 million regular users by splitting it into Home, Connect, Discover and Me sections.

Twitter now has a totally new look to match the functionality upgrade, and there are two other important changes – the Discover tab, for instance, develops the ‘hashtag’ system, enabling users to find located areas of interest. In addition to searching for these tags, users of the service can now see trending topics and ‘stories’, or content shown based on a user’s interests, according to who they follow and their location. Current ‘activity’ and ‘mention’ tools have now been extended, justifying their own ‘Connect’ tab. This tab shows retweets and replies, and also analytical tools so that users can monitor their impact on Twitter.

The ‘Profile’ page has been renamed ‘Me’, and as well as the standard personal profile now incorporates a gallery of any recently uploaded vids or pics. THe changes will roll out gradually across Twitter and its mobile apps, but Twitter has assured users that the Home screen at least will be consistent across all platforms. The update has already arrived on the Android and iOS platforms.
