Tech Tittle Tattle

NVidia has promised quadcore Android tablets by the end of the year, with quadcore smartphones in 2012.
The CEO of NVidia, Jen-Hsun Huang said they were the only manufacturer seriously collaborating with Qualcomm, maker of the current generation of dual-core Snapdragon processors. He also hinted that NVidia will enter the mid-range market rather than concentrating exclusively on tablets and ‘superphones’ such as the Motorola Atrix.
For consumers this should mean a significant performance boost for mid-range phones For consumers this should mean a significant performance boost for mid-range phones, meaning more capable devices available for lower prices. Who said the tech boom had peaked?
Meanwhile, over at Intel, the successor to the Ivy Bridge processor has been announced, codenamed Haswell. The name Haswell is taken from the town of Haswell, Colorado, which is a town situated near the Intel plant responsible for developing the chip.

The new 22nm architecture will be more efficient, meaning lower power consumption for the device running it, and ultimately longer battery life. Or more compting power for the same battery life, depending on your preference.

The march of technology goes on. The successor to the Ivy Bridge family of processors even at this early stage runs using 30% less power than the Core i5, and Intel are aiming for a twenty-fold reduction in standby mode consumption. Haswell CPUs aren’t expected to arrive before 2013.
