Hardware manufacturers are all set for a bumper 2012 for tablet sales – so much so that TFT display companies have re-oriented their business plans towards smaller devices. Weak demand has led to the price of larger, notebook-sized LCDs crashing. Tablets still make up a smaller proportion of the total market than notebooks and TV screens, but the volume sold is set to double from Q1 2011 to Q1 2012.

According to Display Search Panel manufacturers now plan to decrease production of mini-notebook (small notebook and netbook-sized displays) panels and to increase production of tablet panels. This increasing focus on tablet screens is expected to bring about improved quality displays – Samsung, LG and Sharp are all now producing tablet panels with pixel resolutions above 200ppi
