Intel predicts the current hard drive shortage will cost it $1 billion in lost revenue . Flooding in Thailand, where more than 40% of the global hard drive production is located, has already LED to a leap in prices, and analysts now estimate that the shortage could drag on until the third quarter of next year.

Intel expects its current quarter revenue to be just $13.7 bn, down from forecasts of $14.7bn. Intel reported that despite the shortages, PC sales are expected to continue to rise in Q4, though the global PC supply chain is reducing orders for microprocessors due to the hard drive shortage.
