Google – Disney joint promotion
Google is teaming up with Disney in a joint promotion. Google’s YouTube and Disney have announced a deal whereby each will spend $10-15 million on an original series.
Disney will produce the short-length films, which will be distributed via a co-branded Disney channel, according to the New York Times. Reports suggest the channel will also include amateur video uploaded to YouTube, but we’re unsure as yet of the nature of that video.
Google recently revealed plans to develop original content for several YouTube channels, in an attempt to turn the video giant into a profitable enterprise. Disney hopes the deal will help attract youngsters searching for cartoons and video online. Officially, Disney aims to bring its unique brand of storytelling to the next generation of families. It’s all part of their strategy to increase Disney’s internet exposure. Disney recently renewed its Netflix licensing agreement and signed a deal with Amazon to allow Amazon to sell its content.
