Why You Won’t Ever See an Apple Netbook – REASONS

  • Sharebar

Myriad of online websites and blogs often publish about Apple working on a netbook. Whenever any of them enquired Apple about their ā€˜upcoming netbook’, the answer has always been ā€œNOā€. Now, here are few reasons why we think Apple will never release a netbook:

  1. Macbooks are giving them fair-enough profits: Yes, that is the main reason that Apple is not even thinking of working on a netbook. Macbooks are selling just fine. Apple sold 1.7 million notebooks in the first quarter.
  2. Profit Margins: It will be very hard for the Apple to squeeze out high profit margins from a netbook. Most of the netbooks currently are sold under $400 and it can get difficult for Apple to sell them under $500 since Apple and consumers consider Apple as a premium-brand. Macbooks give Apple a lot of profit.
  3. Not-so-affordable Mobile Broadband: If you take a quick glance at any of the wireless carriers in the US or EU, you will notice that most of them are charging more than $60 for few GBs. In this digital age, your Internet needs would suck these few GBs in a couple of days. What is the point of being mobile, when you cannot go online?
  4. Apple would choose Mac Tablet over Netbook anyday: Reason is simple – Higher profit margins and untapped market. Let’s Face it, Windows-based Tablets never sold too well for Tablet PC vendors. If Apple could come out with a product that is finger friendly and easy to use just like iPhone OS, it could become an immediate hit in the market.
  5. Over-Saturated Netbook Market: Almost every single PC manufacture is now offering a netbook. The competition is cut-throat and profit margins are slimmer than ever.
