Viliv N5 review

  • Sharebar

We have waited for quite a long time for the Viliv to finally make the N5 available. Nevertheless, Viliv N5 is finally available for purchase. Although it does not have ground breaking specs, it manages to deliver good performance, thanks to its fast SSD.

Folks at pcwatch have done a review of it and here is the summary of their review:

1. The hinge does not allow the Viliv N5 to open flat

2. The unit weighs mere 385gm. There is a small touchpad on the top right of the keyboard. Left and right click buttons are on the top left.

3. The keyboard is small and so are the keys. Some of the keys have been assigned four functions and you may have to press three buttons at the same time to register a particular character. It cannot be used for touch-typing, but is good enough for thumb-typing.

4. There is no way to output the display to a monitor or a projector.

5. Viliv N5 has a microSD slot, standard USB port and a mini USB port

6. Battery runtime is about 6 hours.

7. Windows Experience Index

  • Processor 1.9
  • Memory 4.2
  • Graphics 2.9
  • Gaming graphics 2.3
  • HDD performance: 5.9 (thanks to SSD)

Conclusion: This portable PC is not for everyone. We cannot recommend it to the professionals on-the-go since it lacks VGA port which would not allow them to give presentations from it. The keyboard is not meant for touch-typing. The Viliv V5 is not a powerhouse, but good enough for watching videos on the go and perhaps, to chew some spreadsheets and docs during the lunch time.

  1. This PC is awesome if one is not interested in having it connected to a bigger screen. It’s small, it looks good and the battery life is enough to see a couple of movies at least.

Yeah, that thing surely is small, but too small for me to be of any use ;)

  3. There’s an expansion slot in the side. I’m wondering if it’s possible to get some sort of VGA adapter.

I bought a N5 a few weeks ago and recommend it. More than a toy, you can use it to deal with your emails, agenda, office suites and even CAD! Yes, I use it to review my CAD works on the go. I´ve been waiting for a tool like this for a long time and I am really impressed with its resources.
