Verizon Wireless Netbook reviewed – HP Mini 1151NR
Folks at infosync have done a review of the recently released, HP Mini 1151NR. This is the same netbook, which was last week released by Verizon Wireless. The netbook has very impressive looks. Also, the since it has a pretty wide keyboard, it is a joy to type onto it. Verizon Wireless was also smart to add a Qualcomm Gobi chipset, which lets the netbook work on Verizon’s fast EV-DO Rev.
Skype performed without any problems and did not show any sluggishness in the tests. Well, there are not going to be many problems especially, if you are on a XP machine. Had they gone for Vista, I am sure we would have heard a lot of complains from the users about its ‘poor performance’.
The only minus point to me is its resolution, which is 576 pixels in height. This can lead to problems like dialog boxes not being able to fully fit inside the screen. This is the same problem that I used to face on my old EEE 701, which had just 480 pixels in height. Some users will also complain about the position of the left and right click buttons. These buttons are on the sides of the trackpad instead of being at its bottom. Battery life is also nothing to talk home about: somewhere between 2-3 hours.
Overall: An average netbook

beacause of the 576 pixel height – there are major problems installing important software. I can not install the printer software from my hp printer. The software requires 800×600. Why would hp do this
Exactly and that is the sole reason I did not buy myself an HP Mini. The best solution is to go for HP 2140 HD which comes with 1366 x 768 resolution
One fact that no one has mentioned yet, is the total lack of support from HP regarding the cell modem, even when using their linux netbook image. HP says Verizon needs to supply the drivers, and Verizon points to HP.
Nice idea, bad implementation.
..and thus the consumer suffers :(
Let start by saying i’m not a tech guy. thie HP Mini is bad enough that i, who only reads the comments not only went looking for solutions but is posting my disappointment in verizon for this product.
yes i should have researched but i was in a rush for something like this. i used it that same day for work instead of boredom.
pros: sign on everywhere on wwan or wi fi; keyboard big enough for my large fingers; i like the right click at the bottom.
cons: THE BATTERY LIFE SUCKS; the a/c cord comes out to easily, needs to somehow snap in; the screen doesnt fit any applications; in the dark, the keys could glow; the volume is real low even with headphones.
Other than that, it performs okay, I dont recommend the hp mini, i will suck up my disconnection fee of 170 bucks. i like the site and wrote it down next to my big house conputer. i will check here before buying again.
well, to get around the display issue all you have to do is go into the desktop properties, settings, advanced,Monitor, and then uncheck the “Hide modes tha this monitor cannot display. Then go back and change the resolution to a accepted setting. This will make your display a little funky but will work until you get the application installed. Once installed recheck the box and apply the setting. this will automaticaly set your resolution back to the propper setting.
