SONY VAIO X specifications – runs Atom CPU and costs $1300 – has anemic battery life
SONY has finally uncovered the specifications of the VAIO X. We now know that it runs Atom Z550 CPU which runs at 2GHz clock speed. Weighing just 1.6pounds (0.7kg), it is very light given its size. It is infact lighter than the first generation ASUS EEE PC (70x series). It is also just 0.5-inch thick. Featuring an 11.1-inch display, it packs the usual 1366×768 pixels. The display is LED backlight too and uses the infamous Intel GMA 500 chipset, which does not behaves nicely when running HD videos (so far). It also incorporates GPS so that you never get lost again. It uses 128GB SSD for storage and has 2GB RAM.

Just like VAIO P, it has two memory card slots: Memory Stick Pro and SD card slot. VAIO X runs Windows 7 Home Premium (which means no XP compatibility mode for you)
Something regarding its keyboard: Being a VAIO P (review) owner, I absolutely detest the small right shift key. It makes me wonder why they were not able to fit in bigger, full-size right shift key into the frame that is bigger than the SONY VAIO P.
With the standard battery, you will be able to squeeze just about 2.5-3 hours of standard use. So what about that whole day battery life thingy? To get those figures, you will need to invest in an extended battery, which will give you 12-14 hours of run time. Here is a pic of how it looks with the extended battery. Ugly if you ask me as it completely destroys the sleek lines of it.
It is not an unknown fact that SONY does not like its users upgrading anything in their VAIO P. They do not want their users to get access to RAM or hard disk.
Also, whats up with the $1300 price tag for a Atom based device that has atrocious battery life? I strongly feel that SONY should have opted for some ULV processor.
