Sony VAIO X – Atom powered VAIO TT replacement? We do not think so! – Lots of pictures of it inside!
Sony has unveiled its latest netbook offering: the VAIO X. It is very sleek and is almost half-an-inch thin. This new gorgeous-looking ultraportable comes with an 11.1-inch screen and weighs just 1.5 pounds! Reason? It uses carbon fiber. Right now, the specs have not been fully finalized, but for the particular moment, it is there with an Atom processor. However, we expect SONY to swap it with a bit more powerful CULV processor. It has got a 2GB RAM module and a 31Wh battery. Its resolution is 1366 x 768 and the display is matte.
Other than that, it comes with 2 USB 2.0 ports, VGA out and has WWAN support. The official word regarding the specs is expected to come in the month of October and will go on sale after Windows 7′s release.
So is it valid replacement to their now defunct VAIO TT? Well, VAIO TT was very very expensive, which retailed for over $2000. SONY was not able to sell a lot of those units due to similar form factor offered by the netbooks that retailed for as low as $200, which is 1/10th of VAIO TT’s price. If the SONY still decides to ship with the ATOM processor, then VAIO X will NOT be a VAIO TT replacement as the TT was able to run Vista pretty nicely and had 4GB RAM. Unfortunately, due to wonderful restrictions enforced by Intel in their Atom processors, it is not possible to use have 4GB RAM in a netbook. Atom, although runs Vista quite well (after a bit of tweaking and 2GB RAM), but the experience and speed is not as good as XP. Perhaps Windows 7 will be able to do what Vista could not do: Kill Windows XP.
Here are some pictures of it:

I would say that vaio tt has a class of its own. Granted they were not able to sell a lot of them, but then it is a niche product. I own one and will continue to use till it dies
