Samsung Orion ARM Processor

Samsung Electronics has launched a new processor for MIDs, Tablets and Smartphones, codenamed Orion. This processor has been created based on the Samsung’s 45nm process technology. It packs a pair of ARM Cortex A9 1GHz cores, where each core boasts 32kb data cache and 32KB instruction cache. It also includes 1MB L2 cache for better CPU processing performance.

The Orion is good enough to handle full screen HD video playback and high speed 3D action games, thanks to the GPU included with the chip that delivers up to 5x 3D graphics performance compared to the previous generation of Samsung processors. The processor can support up to two on-device display screen and at the same time, can drive a third external display such as TV/monitor via an on-chip HDMI 1.3a interface.

The processor will hit mass production in H1 2011
