NorhTec Gecko Edubook packs AA batteries – gets a first look
We mentioned the NorhTec Gecko Edubook way back in May 2009 and we did not hear a word about this netbook since then. EduBook, as the name implies is targeted towards children rather than adults. The accessories such as keyboard and touchpad are made so that it can be used comfortably by school children. It has the modular system design, which means that you can get it either the assembled or you can have the barebones unit. Even its CPU can be replaced easily. The Edubook is fanless – just like Sony Vaio P, but much more cheaper (!)
This Edubook has an 8.9-inch with 1024 x 600 display and can run both Windows and/or Linux. Other distinguishing features of this laptop is that it runs on rechargeable 8 NiMH AA batteries and uses 1GHz Xcore86 CPU which consumes incredibly low 1.2 watts of power. Since we have mentioned that it can run Windows, it unquestionably is x86-compatible. The overall juice sucked by this little laptop is is just 6.5 watts of power. The other specs are 512MB RAM, internal SD card slot, an 8GB SD card, 3 USB 2.0 ports, WiFi, Ethernet, and mic and headphone jacks.
Priced at $199.95.
