Microsoft being partial to netbooks, yet again – only Windows 7 starter edition and Home Basic for netbooks
Intel is sure enough that the upcoming pine trail platform will support at least two versions of Windows 7: Windows 7 Starter and Home basic. This includes the soon-to-be-launched N450 CPU and NM 10. Another interesting point to note is that Microsoft wants to reserve the ‘Starter Edition’ solely for the netbooks.
Another bizarre thing is that Microsoft is not going to allow netbook manufactures to offer the ‘premium’ versions to the end-users. Offering just Plain Jane versions of Windows 7 (Starter and Basic) will surely turn off a lot of users. Why not just provide the ‘home premium’ and ‘business versions’ as an option?
