Intel launches App Store for Netbooks – Developers can register for free for now!
Intel has launched an appstore for Intel Atom based devices such as netbooks, MIDs and UMPCs. Developers will be able to use both Microsoft’s Silverlight and Adobe’s Flash as-well-as Adobe’s AIR platform to run the applications.
“The netbook has become one of the most popular consumer devices in the market today, but its true potential has been limited by applications that are not optimized for its mobility and smaller screen size,” said Renee James, corporate vice president and general manager for Intel’s Software and Services Group, during a presentation at IDF today. “The Intel Atom Developer Program provides a great opportunity for developers to create useful and inventive applications that will unlock a netbook’s potential while opening a new sales and distribution channel.”
Currently, the fee for joining the developer program has been waived and anyone can join the developer program for free. However, since the SDK has not been made available, all one can do is register and wait for the SDK to become available. Intel is promising a 70 / 30 revenue split.
