@helpneeded - It would take 1x 2GB RAM. If your processor is N450/N470, then only DDR2 is supported. Check its review here - http://gadgetmix.com/netbook/asus-eee-1018p-review/

You can get a rebuilt Kernel for Xandros so it will recognize the 2 Gig stick, all you gotta do is make the new Kernel the default boot Kernel. It took me all of 20 min from start to finish on my 701.

For that you will need patched version of Xandros OS. Windows XP recognizes it fine

Yes, Ken. You are right. Only 1GB will be recognized. Also, I don't think there is a need of 2GB RAM on the xandros OS, which is supplied by the Asus.

I highly doubt that the Asus will be rolling out any updates though. :/ You know, Asus has never won awards for after-sales/customer support anyway ;)

Install XP, your 2GB RAM will be recognized immediately

So, if I put a 2 gig RAM SIMM into an early, white, eee 701 4G the ASUS-supplied OS will only recognize/use 1 Gig of RAM? I wonder if they'll fix that at some point...
