Dell no longer selling Ubuntu netbooks
Dell has abandoned selling netbooks with Ubuntu pre-installed. Interestingly, customers can still order by phone. Also, the company will continue to offer the Dell Mini 2100 netbook with Ubuntu OS to its corporate customers.
"We’ve recently made an effort to simplify our offerings online, by focusing on our most popular bundles and configuration options, based on customer feedback for reduced complexity and a simple, easy purchase experience. We’re also making some changes to our Ubuntu pages, and as a result, they are currently available through our phone-based sales only."
Dell also says that Ubuntu-based netbooks are bought only by advanced users and enthusiasts and not the average Joe.
Commentary – The problem I see with Dell is the fact that netbooks with Windows OS with same specs are priced similar to the Ubuntu netbooks. Thus, a normal user always go with the netbook with non-free OS pre-installed.
