Intel Atom N550-based netbooks now shipping
Intel has finally released the dual-core Atom N550 processor, which the company says will bring substantial improvement in application as-well-as graphic performance to the netbooks without affecting the battery runtimes. The Atom N550 processor is a huge upgrade compared to the previous single core processors. The new processor operates at 1.5GHz clock speed and includes 1MB of cache.

Netbooks powered by this new processor will be offered by companies like Acer, Asus, Lenovo, Samsung and Toshiba. However, prices and availability of these netbooks is not yet available. According to McCarron, principal analyst at Mercury Research, we will even see these chips being used in the smartphones. The Atom N550 will be made using a 45nm process and support DDR3 RAM modules.
