ASUS Eee PC 1201N Netbook Review

The thrill in the town of Asus is the sleek EEE 1201N netbook. The features of this netbook are quite tempting – a 12 inch netbook with an Intel Atom 330 dual core processor coupled with NVIDIA ION make it quite a distinct pairing. Windows 7, famous for the inquisitive reviews, runs very fine on it. 1.6GHz Atom processor netbook does all the justice to your basic video requirements and other pre-requisites of a desirable processor.

The 1366×768 12-inch LED-backlit display is great to look at. Taking into account the $499, the memory area is quite utilitarian- 250GB or 320GB Hard drive and 2 or 3GB of DDR2 RAM, and multi-in one card reader.

According to Laptopmag, the touchpad is mediocre – multitouch gestures are great but a single mouse bar instead of two separate physical buttons, is something that was not liked much the reviewers. But they found the heating gestures of 1201N netbook very cool – keyboard and touchpad remained at 83-85 degrees even after a considerable fifteen minutes HD video streaming.

Hothardware even goes on to declare it as the link between the old and the new generation netbooks of today. They found a striking similarity between 1201n and 1005HA in terms of looks. Appreciating its 6-cell battery they said that it lasted 3.5 hours given the dual-core CPU, Ion GPU and a larger screen.

Engadget sees  it more as a laptop than netbook. The YouTube HD and Hulu HD were smooth but what was the speed breaker was the – local playback. The overall perception was – powerful performance, great looks and affordability.
