ASUS EEE 1008HA final thoughts
We have done plenty of tests on the EEE 1008HA and have played a lot with it from the past couple of days. So, do we recommend buying it? You will be able make your decision for sure after reading this post for sure.
We have tested and reviewed a lot of netbooks so far. However, EEE 1008HA is pretty different from the all the EEE PCs that have been released so far. Here are few points what make it different from the rest of the ASUS netbooks:
- It is hands down the most attractive EEE PC made till date
- It is very slim, which makes it easier to carry around
- Even though it comes with an 10-inch display, it is much shorter in height than the EEE 1000HE and EEE 1000H.
- It has a built-in battery. Most of the EEE PCs come with user-replaceable battery.
- That said, it still manages to provide us with great battery life (see this post for more information)
- Although its keys make a lot of noise while typing, it still has the best keyboard we have seen in ASUS netbooks.
- We absolutely hate carrying the VGA dongle. If you plan to connect your netbook to big screens and projectors, look out for some other netbook with built-in VGA output port
Other than the aforementioned points, one more important point that can totally change the decision of its potential buyers is the fact that you cannot swap in the 2.5-inch HDD of your choice by just unscrewing two screws. You will have to take the device apart to get access to the HDD. Same goes for RAM whose capacity is 1GB.
ASUS also has a bad habit of partitioning the 160GB HDD in just two partitions. The OS is installed on the first partition (72GB, NTFS) and there is another empty partition (NTFS) which has the capacity of 72GB. In case you have been wondering where the rest 5GB went, well, ASUS has reserved that for the recovery partition, which basically contains the recovery (ghost) image of the Windows XP Home SP3.
Now, let’s return back to the core question: SHOULD YOU BUY ONE? Well, if you do not plan to do any hard disk or RAM upgrades, then you may go for it. Also, make sure you have an ASUS service center nearby as you will need to take it to service center to get yourself a new battery after one year or so.

Well you don’t really have to carry the dongle now.
It’s stored underneath and unless you need to use it several times a day I don’t see how it can be much of a chore.
Well, it looks utterly unprofessional when you taking the dongle out when you are in a meeting. I would rather go for eee 1005ha
I think you will be surprised by the good longevity of Lithium-Polymer batteries. Asus didn’t just bury a Lithium-Ion in there, that would have been suicidal. Instead (and one reason for the upped price tag) they opt for Lithium-Ion which is a much more premium design.
