ASUS EEE 1008HA – Battery Life
The ASUS EEE 1008HA, unlike all other EEE PCs comes with a built-in battery as opposed to external battery. By the slim looks of it, one may think that it would not be able to deliver sufficient amount of battery life to make it last long enough, but we were wrong.
I started off the day with battery fully charged. Immediately after the boot up, I switched to Power Saving mode as I wanted to know the maximum runtime it can deliver. It was showing me 5 hours and 45 minutes. Note that, this was with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth disabled and I was not connected to the Internet in any manner. I then did some of my office work at a random coffee shop. After working for an hour or so and brightness set to just two notches above the minimum brightness levels, it was still showing me 5 hours and 15 minutes of runtime.
Then, I got into my car and used my WiMax (3.5G) modem with the help of an extension cable. Why an extension cable? See this post to know more about it.
After surfing for about 30 minutes in the car while my driver was taking me to my office, it was showing me 4 hours and 10 minutes of run time remaining. I was impressed!
Reaching the office, I plugged out the WiMax modem and connected it to the Wi-Fi network of my office. I also switched to high performance mode. I fired Firefox and watched some videos for about 30minutes on the YouTube with sound coming from the speakers. It took a toll on the battery and it was now showing 2 hours 50 minutes. Not bad at all!
So, there you have it. With power-saving mode enabled and all connectivity radios like Wifi and Bluetooth switched off, you can get nearly 6 hours of battery life from this good looking netbook. On the other hand, if you are using the netbook in high-performance mode, even then I am pretty sure, you will have no problem in squeezing out at least 4 hours from it.
