Asus and Acer put a stop to netbooks

A 5 year time span for once very hopeful netbook segment has come to an end.

Netbooks were defined as small portable computers with 10-inch screen, although definition got a bit blurry with time. Netbook sales kept declining in 2012 with tablets gaining in popularity.

Digitimes reports that Asus will no longer make their Eee PC netbooks and Acer will no longer make new netbooks. Existing netbooks are being sold only while quantities last. If you’re keen on having a netbook you should probably pick one up soon.

Notebook makers will most likely offer cheaper versions of notebooks to replace the dying segment.
