Acer NAV50 and NAV60 netbooks spotted at FCC

Acer’s yet to come netbook was seen at FCC. NAV50 and NAV60 are the two models which were noticed. The only things which can be made out about this netbook from the available diagram is the size of the notebook (netbook), a 3-cell battery with 2200mAh capacity and a Windows XP sticker. It will have WiFi b/g and also a 3G module.

It has been quite a while since Acer released a new netbook. Acer Aspire One 751H, that we reviewed in June was disappointing in terms of performance, thanks to the awesome (note: sarcasm) Atom Z520 processor, which is ironically is slower than its predecessors (N280 and N270). This makes the Aspire D250 Acer’s flagship netbook.

  1. it looks as though it uses XP instead of windows 7, this is strange?

I got latest nav-50 this week. it came out with lots smaller battery that doesn’t stick out like crazy. The new keyboard has wider(apple like)keys, makes typing comparable to regular laptop. It also runs Windows 7 Starter edition. I have tested it for normal PC applications and it works amazingly good. I can run about fifteen programs at the same time(I haven’t tried more), and they are real programs like Photoshop, Itunes etc. I plugged it into projector and the quality of picture very decent. The only disadvantage is that Starter Edition of Windows 7 doesn’t let you to change desktop appearance like themes and even wallpaper. Another disadvantage that windows was not supporting any video formats, but installing VLC player fixed this problem. I paid $300 for it at Costco and I think it was a good purchase, as it comes with two year warranty, 6-cell (8hour) battery, and latest WiFi card. It is definitely not going to substitute laptops or desktops, but can be a good addition to people with traveling lifestyle, students, and anyone else whose computer needs don’t extend further from word processing, listening to music, and browsing web.

I purchased an Aspire One NAV50 from Fry’s Electronics in Palo Alto. The first Aspire One I bought from that store did not even bootup. When I connect the power cable to the machine, nothing lights up. I had to return it for an exchange. The second machine boots up but the USB port on the right side did not work. I also notice it was very difficult to insert a USB device into the USB port. It appears that the USB port receptor is slightly smaller than the USB stick, so it took some work to insert the USB stick. I am return the second machine to exchange for a third machine and will see if the third machine has any problem. I like the Aspire because it is Ubuntu compatible. I ran Ubuntu on it without any problem, and it can be configured to boot from the USB stick. Cheers!

I bought an Aspire One NAV50 from Walmart two days ago for just over $300 including tax. Windows 7 Starter, 1 gig ram, 160 gig hd 1024X600 10.” monitor. Everything on it seems to work well. I’m using it right now. I wish it had built-in bluetooth and a dvd drive but for the $ it seems like a really good deal to me. The battery life on it so far seems amazing. :-)

    Hi,

I brought a NAV50 under the impression (from the sales man) that this had bluetooth all ready to just use. Is this not the case? It’s one of the main reasons that i brought one of these damn things!
