$100 netbook – can run Windows XP – powered by 8 AA batteries
DMP electronics, a Taiwanese manufacture has launched a $100 netbook, the EduBook. It will shipped to other countries and will be assembled by the OEMs and partners to save on custom duties and to keep the price as-low-as possible. The Edubook, targeted towards the children, has an 8.9-inch display and a CPU made by DMP electronics itself. The CPU is x86-based which means it can be made to run Windows XP too. The netbook runs on 8 AA batteries for upto 4 hours.
The Edubook is already being shipped to the countries in Latin America. It has received a lot of attention from governments from Eastern Europe and Africa.
When we thought that $100 nettop was too good to be true, a company from India came out with one (reviewed by us HERE). However, that nettop ran Linux and did all of its storage online. We were, thus not a happy camper. We hope Edubook does not exhibit this major flaw.
