Archos 7 Home Tablet review

  • Sharebar

The incredibly famous PMP maker has been busy churning-out Android-based MIDs from the few months. Their latest MID or PMP sports 7-inch resistive display and runs Android 1.6 version. The major selling point is the low price tag it carries – $200 and the fact that this MID dons Android OS which is one of the most popular out there. The Archos 7 Home Tablet is powered by a 600mhz Rockchip 2808 processor that is muscular enough to run Android OS without any noticeable hiccups. It is pretty good at web-browsing and excels at playback those 720p videos like a duck soup.

However, according to the quick review by archosfans, keep the videos limited to 2500kbit/s bitrates, if you want to keep that video playback jitter-free. They even think that it is viable, and of course cheap alternative to the Apple iPad whose entry-level model retails at $499.  The entry level model will come at an extremely low price tag of $179 and will have mere 2GB of flash storage that is expandable via microSD storage card slot. It is being said that there will an 8GB version too and some models will have bigger capacities too.

Of course, along with the usual Android stuff, Archos has included their customized video player as-well-as audio player. There is no Android market, but there are ways to hack it in.

I brought two home in one day because the first one failed right out of the box, AND THEN THE SECOND DID TOO! The procedure for transferring files, as it is written, is identical to a backup drive, mp3 player, etc. and I have never had a problem with other hardware. Over the course of about ten tries my videos would not play, or not show up in the devices menu, or would only play the sound of my video, or go black while it was playing. The format of my video matched the two sample videos that were preloaded, avi. I tried playing some of the preloaded sample music, then I couldn’t get to stop playing even when I turned the power off.
