The steriPen Freedom
The SteriPen Freedom sterilises undrinkable water wherever you are in the western world few people think about how fortunate we are to be able to drink water directly from taps. People in other parts of world people sicken or even die because they can’t get access to clean drinking water. The SteriPen Freedom is a pocket-sized device which charges via microUSB and can sterilize up to 0.5L of water, destroying 99.9% of bacteria and viruses in the process. A liter of water can be sterilized by treating it twice. The SteriPen automatically operates for a period of 48 seconds turning water from hazardous to drinkable.
SteriPen weighs a mere 2.8oz which is about half the weight of a smartphone, and is probably the lightest disinfecting device available. UV light is responsible for disinfecting the water and each light lasts for approximately 8000 half-liter treatments.
The SteriPen Freedom will soon be available at $119.95. Let’s hope a big sponsor or governmental agency can jump in and bring some economies of scale, and so lower the price.
