Cotton Candy – Computer In Your Pocket
New norwegian company FXI Technology has announced its first product – Cotton Candy, a computer on a USB. It’s powered by an ARM Cortex-A9 CPU and features an interface for any display device – smartphone, tablet, HD display; anything with a USB or HDMI input. Users can access the Cloud or Apps using their favorite OS and with all their custom settings wherever they are.
The ARM processor runs at 1.2GHz, backed a four-core ARM Mali-400MP graphics processor and 1GB of on-board DRAM. The tiny contraption offers WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and supports up to 64GB of storage through a microSD card. At one end there’s a USB port and at the other is a HDMI.
The default OS is Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but Ubuntu Linux is also supported, and a virtualized client allows you to use Windows, Linux or Mac OS. The company has plans for quicker CPUs and USB-3 connectivity. It weighs 21g and measures 3.2 x 1 inch – not much bigger than a USB stick. Simply plug it into your display and an Android window appears, or any of the other OS installs. The Cotton Candy is expected to appear on the market in late 2012 and should cost about $200.
