Windows 8 Spec Kept Low

Microsoft has made it known that Windows 8 system requirements will be as low if not lower than those for Windows 7.
The Vice President of Microsoft’s Windows division added that intelligence has been built into Windows 8 so that the OS ‘can adapt to the user experience based on the user’s hardware.’
So the new OS will optimize itself to match your hardware, be it a new PC or an old one.

This announcement is in accordance with the focus on tablets for Windows 8, and the move to incorporate support for ARM processors.  Calls for Windows Phone 7 to be ported to tablets were rejected – the President of Windows Phone claiming that Microsoft views a tablet ‘as a sort of PC.’
Windows 8 will need to work on tablets, thus will not require an upgrade in system spec.

If Windows 8 works on Windows-7 capable machines, then it will also run on Vista PCs, which will mean Microsoft will not put pressure on manufacturers to improve hardware for more than five years. The policy should work well for Microsoft, though, since the hardware support built into Windows 8 will help extend PC lifespan, freeing up consumers to spend on tablets, which might help Microsoft attempt to muscle in on the booming tablet market.

Sceptics suggest plenty of ‘eye candy’ and new features necessary to persuade people to upgrade to Windows 8 will mean old PCs will only run Windows 8 slowly – so upgrades will be inevitable anyway. Especially with quad-core mobile devices just around the corner…
