Microsoft lands $617 million contract with the Department of Defense
US Army, Air Force and DISA (Defense Information Systems Agency) will get their Windows 8, Microsoft Office and other Microsoft products.
According to Bloomberg, $617 million contract signed between Microsoft and Department of Defense is the ‘most comprehensive agreement’ as it covers about 3/4 of Department of Defense’s computers. The agreement is for 3 years and it is to cover about 1.5 million computers for all Microsoft’s software including Microsoft Office 2013 and Microsoft SharePoint 2013 Enterprise.

Department of Defense has chosen Microsoft out of 7 (unnamed) contenders. US Army and US Air Force have been collaborating with Microsoft to create ‘AF Standard Desktop Configuration and Army Golden Master compliance’ with Windows 8.
Tim Solms, General Manager of Microsoft’s DoD Business surmised,
“Microsoft has longstanding relationships with the U.S. Army, the U.S. Air Force and DISA, and we are honored to expand our support of ongoing technology modernization efforts across all three organizations. This agreement enables us to provide the best technology tools to an incredibly broad range of servicemen and servicewomen across the DoD, and we are looking forward to implementing to support their mission goals.”
In 2011 U.S. government gave about $530 billion in contracts and Pentagon got about 2/3 of it.
