Lenovo has announced the new iPad-sized ideaPad S2109,which with a 9.7 inch 1024 x 768 pixel screen is unusual in exactly mimicking the proportions and screen resolution of Apple iPads 1 and 2. Most of the tablets appearing on the market are longer and narrower than the IdeaPad and iPad, at 10.1 inches across the diagonal and with 1280 x 800 resolution at best. That makes their aspect ratio ideal for HD movies, though in portrait orientation they are awkward, being both thin and long.
Lenovo is talking up the S2109 gunmetal-styled unibody shell, which is only 0.35 inches thick. The new slate Lenovo ideaPad S2109 features a 1.3MP front-facing camera and four speakers on its rear, with microHDMI and microSD slots as well as a microUSB interface for syncing with a PC.
The Lenovo Ideapad S2109 will run Android 4 ICS. But no word on either processor or RAM in Lenovo’s promo video, though we expect RAM to come in at 1GB. With the iPad 2 selling for $399, Lenovo will need to undercut Apple to be sure of success. Or pack in a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dualcore processor for far superior performance… the company would surely have made more of it if the S2109 was destined for a quad-core CPU.
