What’s New in iOS 6?

iOS 6

We tended to focus on the eagerly-awaited update to the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air lines at WWDC, but the other big event in Apple’s keynote speech was the upgrade to iOS 6, which will bring more than 200 new features to Apple’s mobile operating system.

On our sister site we take an early look at what’s hot in the revamp, with particular attention to the headline new feature, the new Maps apps, bringing 3D rendering, turn-by-turn navigation and local information on everything from historical buildings and eateries to gas stations.

The last update’s star feature was Siri voice control, and the voice assistant is rewarded for its efforts with the ability to launch apps. In recognition of our busy lives, the Phone app has been improved, allowing users to reply to calls with preset messages and to switch to ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode to keep receiving calls and messages behind the scenes without the current activity being interruipted. Privacy worries have also been addressed.
