Intel Medfield Tablet Aimed At Emerging Markets
Leaks indicate Intel is planning to target its StoryBook tablet at developing markets. Intel will combine Medfield processors with a dual operating system on a 10-inch slate.
DigiTimes claims the StoryBook tablet will primarily be aimed at the Chinese and Brazilian markets, though Intel hopes there will be sufficient demand in more developed markets for them to sell it at $300.
In 2008 Intel produced a touchscreen-enabled version of its Classmate Netbook, featuring a swivel display that could be folded flat against the keyboard for tablet-style use. This early convertible had a smaller 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 pixel display and was powered by a 1.6GHz Atom chip, and the newer Medfield StoryBook is expected to launch in mid-2012.
