Intel’s new Set-Top Box and TV Service
News of upcoming CES in Las Vegas are starting to trickle in. Samsung is to surprise us with their new unprecedented TV design, Tizen phone and new touch monitor while Intel will dazzle us with new Set-Top Box and new TV Service.
Intel has been partnered Google TV in past but without much success. Now it wants to make the run count with their own city by city TV service with their very own set-top box offering. Intel TV service will include internet-based TV service as well as cable TV.
Intel chooses city by city approach to avoid licensing issues. New Intel’s Set-Top Box will include facial recognition, dynamic ad insertion, and better ad targeting. New TV services will allow users to record any program within a month without programming it by recalling it. No more scheduling of your recordings, just recall what you know has aired while back and record it. This new recalling feature would probably make people throw out their old clunkers and replace them with new Intel Set-Top Box.
Apple is talking to cable operators to get more content for their Apple TV. Microsoft is reportedly readying their set-top box as well. Intel’s CES 2013 press conference wil reveal more on Monday, January 7th at 1PM PCT.
