Toshiba DynaBook MX review – MX/33 and MX/43
Toshiba DynaBook MX is a CULV netbook from Toshiba that is available in two variants: MX/33 and MX/43.
The MX/33 has an 11.6-inch screen and MX/43 has a 13.3-inch screen. Both have 1366×768 resolution. There is a nice texture on the lid of the netbook as-well-as on the palm rest area and touchpad. Weighing around 1.58kg, MX-33 is certainly not the lightest netbook out there, but it is not that heavy as it has a 11.6-inch display. MX-43, on the other hand, weighs 1.76kg, but then it has a bigger display than the former too.
pcwatch was able to get their lucky hands on both of these. Here is what we found notable in the review (Japanese)
MX/33 uses Celeron ULV 743 CPU (with Intel GS40) that runs at 1.3GHz whereas MX/43 uses Core 2 Duo SU9400 CULV processor (with GS50) at 1.4GHz. The performance of latter was better, obviously. Both of the CULV notebooks come with 2GB RAM, but the MX/43’s RAM can be expanded upto 8GB RAM (4GB for MX/33). 250GB HDD is used in both of the notebooks and Windows 7 Home Premium is also pre-installed.
There is a HDMI port, 3 USB 2.0 ports, earphone and micrpophone jack. Both have 6-cell batteries. Toshiba claims 9.5 hours and 10.5 hours of runtime for MX/33 and MX/43. Reason why MX/43 has better battery life is the use of higher-capacity cells in case of MX/43.
There is a multi-card reader in both; bluetooth and WiFi b/g/n are also built-in.
Price: $1300 for MX 43 and $1000 for MX 33
