Acer AO751H REVIEW (same as Acer LT3000) (Acer Aspire One 751)

With so many netbook manufactures now breaking into the 10-inch+ screen limit, Acer was no way going to left behind in the business where it actually rules. The Acer A0751H is the first Acer Aspire One to sport an Intel Atom Z 520 processor that is clocked at 1.3GHz. However, the best part of this netbook is its resolution: 1366 x 768 px, which gives it an obvious edge over its competitors. So, was it able to impress us?

It is just 2.5cm thin; weighs just 1.1kg and its metallic finish makes it perfect for making a style statement. But, do not go swayed away by its looks, it is pretty powerful too. Tip for Firefox 3.5+ users: Hide the Tab bar when only one tab is opened

Many of us upgraded to the Firefox 3.5 immediately when it was released. Although the new version bought a lot of speed and security improvements, it also made the tab bar ‘permanently’ visible even though only tab was in use. This might not have affected the netbook users with high screen resolutions (like VAIO P), but it certainly bugged me a lot on my EEE 1000H and even more on my EEE 701, which comes with just 800 x 480 pixel screen.

Fortunately, there is an easy way to turn tab bar off when there is only one tab in use:

  • Go to Tools>Options
  • Go to “Tabs” tab
  • Untick “Always show the tab bar”

step-2-1

Done! You just gained back your ‘lost’ pixels.

    Hi there,

Thanks for the tip, that worked well. I was so disappointed when I upgrade to 3.5 and lost so much screen space. Anyways, the only downside to hiding the tab bar now is that you lose the throbber which shows that a page is loading. Without it, it’s hard to tell if you clicked on a link or not to see that the page is loading.

Do you know how to bring the throbber back to the original position?

I tried looking through the about:config but had no luck finding a setting for it. I have a feeling it might be in the userchrome or something like that.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Dave, right click on the any toolbar. You should get a toolbar menu. Click on customize. Drag the “Activity Indicator” anywhere in the toolbar

Thank you so much, that was very easy. I appreciate your article and tips. Now I’ve got my Firefox back to normal use on my favourite netbook.

    Thanks again,
    Dave
