“Sparkling White” is the new color that is now being offering by Sony Japan. Also introduced, there are three designer lids for Sony Vaio W netbook. These designer lids add $50 more to the overall price.
The VAIO W is an over-priced netbook by that uses Intel Atom N280 processor and has 1GB RAM. It uses a small 3-cell battery and costs $500.

It is retailing at $379.99 with free shipping. HP has promised to donate $1 out of every pink mini sold between 9/20/09 and 12/31/09.
Specs-wise nothing has changed.
- 10.1-inch display
- 1024×600 resolution
- 160GB HDD
- 1GB RAM
- Intel Atom N270 processor (1.6GHz)
- WiFi (b/g)
Oh and I completely forget to mention. It still comes with a paltry and pathetic 3-cell battery.
Sony’s new pink, lady-focused VAIO W aims to support the social cause of ‘Breast Cancer’. Sony has announced that it will donate $110,000 to Breast Cancer Research Foundation. You can also buy Sony Ebook reader to support the cause.

Electronic giant, SONY has decided to team up with the Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) to sell its netbooks in the Taiwan market and SONY is doing this for the first time. Chunghwa Telecom will also be cooperating with the SONY to promote its products and services through the plethora of SONY’s retail channels in Taiwan, which includes SONY Style, Best Denki, Fnac and Tsann Kuen.
This means that SONY will be selling its newly released VAIO W in the Taiwanese market (also) via CHT.
Weibu N10Aan ION powered netbook that resembles a VAIO W was seen a few days back, in Japan and now, it being displayed in China.
It’s the replica of the Sony Vaio W netbook. From the inside, it is a standard netbook with NO exceptional specs, by which we mean that it comes with an Intel Atom N270 processor, 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM and so on. It is currently being available in black color and its pricing information is not known at the moment.
Also, we do not think that the company that is manufacturing this clone can get into trouble as no-where it is using the VAIO branding.
It may shock you but, its true! The Sony Vaio laptops are not designed to run Window’s 7’s much boasted Windows XP virtual mode. Also the laptops are shipping with BIOS with which Virtualization cannot be done. Sony hasn’t made any clarification regarding whether, they will enable this feature in coming future or not.
According to Sony Insider, the company commented on this by saying that “Its engineers and QA people were very concerned that enabling VT would expose our systems to malicious code that could go very in the Operating System structure of the PC and completely disable it”, a official of the company.
Many misconceptions and confusion are crawling within the people that Sony’s advertising is not at all clear about the whether the Vaio machines are unable to work with a core feature of the Core 2 Duo chips they ship with. As a result of which, many people have now asked for a refund.
I am personally looking forward to do this feature as it would let me to run some of the apps that run only in Windows XP. If SONY does not come with a solution, then they are bound to loose certain number of consumers (including me)
N-Series Intel Atom processors were allowed to be used in netbooks with display resolutions upto 1024×600. Now, Intel has relaxed the rules a bit and has allowed the netbook manufactures to use up to 1366 x 768, which is the same resolution as sported by the newly released, Sony VAIO W. However, this change does not applies to netbooks more than 10.2-inches. Only the netbooks that have screen size upto 10.2-inches can use the high resolution along with Atom N270 or N280 CPU.
Sony has just announced the VAIO W, which sports the exact same specs as any other netbook in town. Not surprisingly, Sony is referring the VAIO W as “Internet Book” as Sony hates the word ‘netbook’. When the VAIO P was launched, Sony emphasized on the fact that VAIO P was not a netbook as it offered *better* features than the netbooks around. However, same cannot be said about their new netbook as it sports standard netbook specs (except for its high resolution screen).

Sony has used the same keyboard that it uses in its latest VAIOs: chiclet-style keyboard, which is nice thing to know. It has made its debut in Japan and will soon be launched in other parts of the world. Expect the price to be around $630, which is around $200 than the other netbooks with similar specs. But hey, it is a Sony (Sony = Not cheap)
