Dell Mini 9 was the the Dell first tablet. Like the ASUS EEE 701, myriad of MODs have been done on it (take a look at the blue-LED mod done on EEE 701 here). Few weeks back, we mentioned about the very exciting Tablet Mod. Now, we present to you Accelerometer MOD on that same little Mini 9 that was equipped with a touchscreen display.
Many of us have been waiting for affordable tablet devices that run Windows OS. This MOD will also make those people envious who have been waiting for the Mac iTablet (or whatever that will be called).

Let us not forget the legendry EEE 701 that came with 4GB SSD. There is also another netbook that comes with ‘that’ small storage capacity, the Dell Mini 9.
Here is a way to keep the installation to minimum: Minimal CD installation
Unlike other installations where you install from the CD/DVD or USB drive, in case of Minimal CD installation, one installs it from the Internet. Follow instructions from the following link:

Dell Mini 9 comes with Broadcom wireless card which is gets a lot of heat regarding its poor WiFi signal strength.
A courageous user swapped the Broadcom wireless card for an Intel 5300 wireless card and noticed a significant gain in the signal strength.
Wanted to increase the storage space of your Dell Mini 9? By default, the Mini 9 comes with only 8GB or 16GB SSD, which is clearly not a lot of space to store your media content. If you love SSDs for their ruggedness and speed, Runcore offer pretty good deals on them. However, Runcore ProIV does NOT behaves nicely with the Dell Mini 9 netbook. So, you should keep in mind which one to buy.

RunCore, a popular SSD manufacture is surely be getting quite a heat from the Dell Mini 9 folks. Recent Dell Mini 9 aka Dell Vostro A90 netbooks seems to be killing the RunCore ProIV SSDs. The SSD, once installed, shows up as 0GB in the BIOS. The horror story does not ends there. Afterwords, out of surprise, if you take it out wondering what happened with the SSD and connect it via USB, you won’t be able to write anything to it; won’t be able re-partition; infact, you won’t be able to anything with the SSD.
Oddly, this is not the case with the older Dell Mini 9 netbooks. We urge Dell Mini 9 owners, not to buy RunCore SSDs until we hear about it directly from RunCore
You can yourself a Dell Vostro A90 (same as Dell Mini 9) directly from Dell for as low as $219. You will get 8GB SSD, 1GB RAM, Ubuntu 8.04 Linux, Atom N270 processor, 8.9-inch display 1024×600 resolution, GMA 950 chipset, WiFi b/g together with a 4-cell battery.

Rob928, a geek at mydellmini has modded his Dell Mini 9 netbook into a Tablet PC. He has used a solderless touchscreen kit to achieve the result. How is the final result? Great, if you ever yearned for a touchscreen (slate) tablet about the size of Dell Mini 9.
However, making it a slate tablet is not a piece of cake. It required stripping off the lid; trimming the hinges. What problems one could face if he/she does this brave mod to his mini 9? Well, Dell Mini 9 vents out a lot of heat through its keyboard. Since the screen is basically upside down now, it blocks the heat from radiating out. As a result of which, it does get a little hot.
Even then, we applaud the efforts of the modder, who has loaded Windows 7 on this baby.

Although Dell Mini 9 is not latest and greatest anymore, but that did not stop the modders from putting in a fingerprint reader into it. rich2871, a member at Dell mini forum has come up with a mod where he has put in a fingerprint reader into the small body of Mini 9, which he can converted into a hackintosh.
However, keep in mind that you will have to do some cutting to make space for the fingerprint reader and after doing that your warranty will be voided.
Dell has confirmed that it won’t be making Mini 9 netbooks anymore. The Dell Mini 9 was launched in September 2008 at a price tag of $349. Since then, the Dell has released several (bigger) netbooks as the market was responding better to the bigger netbooks as they allowed the manufactures to equip them with bigger keyboards and bigger screens.
Dell is now urging the consumers to go for the Dell Mini 10V instead which is currently retailing at $299 and comes with a bigger 10-inch screen.
It looks like that not all the Dell Mini 9s are same or shall I say “Dell has made an improvement”. The hinge of the old Dell Mini 9 (shown on the right) would not allow the screen to go back as the one shown on the left. The ability to go back more can provide better viewing angles in certain positions, say when you are standing.
My trusty ASUS EEE 1000H can go back a great deal, almost 160-deg or so. It is pity that the older Dell Mini 9’s hinge did not allow the users to let their screens go back as compared to the new Dell Mini 9’s hinge.
