Ubuntu 9.10 is the latest Ubuntu’s release that brings in myriad of fixes and new features that make it the most user-friendly Linux OS ever made. GadgetMix.com spent quite a lot of time with the Alphas, Betas and the final release and we are impressed!
People use their netbooks for a variety of purposes. Some use it for Internet surfing on-the-go and some for basic office editing. There are many of us, who use these nice little devices for GPS navigation. Netbook screens are perfect for this as they are smaller than the big and bulky notebooks and have bigger displays than the usual in-car GPS devices.

Alright, so we have completed doing various tests on the EEE 1008HA and we have developed a both love and hate relationship with this slim netbook from ASUS.
With so many netbook manufactures now breaking into the 10-inch+ screen limit, Acer was no way going to left behind in the business where it actually rules. The Acer A0751H is the first Acer Aspire One to sport an Intel Atom Z 520 processor that is clocked at 1.3GHz. However, the best part of this netbook is its resolution: 1366 x 768 px, which gives it an obvious edge over its competitors. So, was it able to impress us?
After the sweet success of ASUS EEE S101, ASUS rolled out a hard disk version of it, the EEE S101H. It is built along the lines of S101. It is just 2.5cm thin; weighs just 1.1kg and its metallic finish makes it perfect for making a style statement. But, do not go swayed away by its looks, it is pretty powerful too. ASUS EEE T91MT one more exiting feature: Palm Rejection. This feature is hidden inside Touch Gate’s tools (IntelliWrite). You can two options to choose from:
Pen Mode
Finger Mode
This feature only works with Journal and Sticky Notes. Sadly, this feature is not available in all the apps which means that in those apps, you will be a bit more careful more writing or scribling anything as Palm Rejection feature won’t be active in those apps.
Multi-touch tablet netbook, the 8.9-inch ASUS Eee PC T91MT is now up at Amazon.com for pre-order. It’s being offered at a hefty price tag of $549. With Windows 7 Home Premium as OS, only white model is currently available. The only difference compared to EEE T91 that we see that the RAM and SSD capacity has been doubled (32GB SSD, 2GB RAM versus 16GB SSD, 1GB RAM as in Windows XP version)
ASUS EEE T91 is the ASUS first attempt to see if there is enough market for the netbook tablet. ASUS itself doomed its T91 tablet by equipping it with a slow CPU.
There are two things that bugs the users of T91 the most while using XP:
1. Awful implementation of right click in XP
2. Pathetic touchscreen tools and apps that bog down the system without much improving user experience
If you install Windows 7 on the ASUS EEE T91, things and experience will improve dramatically. The speed is as good as Windows XP and brings in excellent tablet functionality. The right click mechanism is much more intuitive and has better on-screen keyboard.
ASUS has just posted an excellent video on their YouTube channel, which shows all the customizations that the ASUS has done to the T91 to make everything more finger-friendly and user-friendly. Here is the video:
According to EeeUser.com, ASUS could be planning to cancel the release of multitouch version of EEE T91 touchscreen netbook. ASUS was earlier planning to unveil a T91 with Windows 7 which would harness the Windows 7’s touch support.
Now, although Windows 7 will be launching in coming September, but we won’t be seeing an affordable tablet running Windows 7. The obvious reason that comes to our mind is the sad fact that T91s are not selling that well. Small screen, lack of multitouch (on current model) and cramped keyboard are few reasons behind T91’s failure.
User manuals are great for knowing about the features and functions about a device . We have just found out that ASUS has made its manual online and is available for download.
By looking through its manual, we were able to learn about the new ASUS utility: EEE Docking Touch Tool Bar, which is used to give the user access to frequently used functions.
Another interesting utility that we came across was the Touch Gate utility, which lets you do some basic functions like opening applications stored on your EEE in a very finger friendly manner.
Bangu Baijian has unveiled convertible netbook that comes with a touchscreen display. This unit will be launched in US with a reasonable price of about $440. It has 10.2-inch display which is commonly found in an average netbook. It comes with the (very) familiar 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB HDD. It sports 2 USB ports, a VGA ports, SDHC card reader and an Ethernet jack as-well-as 802.11b/g WiFi. You can get one with Bluetooth too.
Specs-wise and features-wise, this Bangu Baijian convertible netbook looks very familiar to the ASUS EEE T91, which sports an 8.9-inch display instead of 10.2-inch display. However, ASUS has done a great job of adding useful utilities to utilize the touchscreen feature. We are right now not aware of any such (useful) utilities for the Bangu netbook
The soon-to-be-released Asus EEE T91 will be made available in 3 versions. According to Asus UK, these three versions will be called by different names. First version is the basic version and is simply called as Eee PC T91. The second version will called by the name, T91 GO. This will packed with built-in 3G connectivity and GPS module. The last version will be called by EEE T91A which will have a full touch interface and will be the first netbook to feature Windows 7.
Everybody is talking about the just released EEE T91, but there is little to almost no buzz about the Gigabyte T1028, which is quite similar to ASUS EEE T91, atleast on paper. Both of them come with an Intel Atom processor; 1GB RAM and come pre-loaded with Windows XP Home. The only difference is the screen size: Gigabyte T1028 has a 10.1-inch display whereas the EEE T91 comes with 8.9-inch display.
ASUS has made the product page of its first EEE tablet, the T91 now online. The T91 comes with a Windows XP OS. ASUS has done a great a terrific job in making the interface as finger-friendly as possible.
Commentary: We would like to reiterate the fact that companies should sell their products with user-replaceable battery. This is important for the end-user as he won’t have to send the unit back to the customer service just to get the battery replaced. He can order the battery online and can easily replace it himself. Another advantage of user-replaceable battery is that it opens the option to get extended-battery, which can increase the runtimes
ASUS has made available the drivers of EEE T91 online although it is yet to hit the local stores.
Also, it looks like Linux version may also be coming since it asks you to select the OS (between Linux and Windows), when you first visit the support page. That said, there is only a single Linux utility available for download.
There is some (exciting) news about the recently unveiled ASUS EEE T91: It supports multi-touch! EEE-PC.de (german) were able to get their hands on the ASUS EEE T91, which was running Windows 7. They confirmed that it was able to recognize multi-touch. See the following video, which clearly shows that EEE T91 supports multi-touch
Asus has finally unveiled its first tablet EEE PC, the T91, which is equipped with an 8.9-inch display with 1024 x 600 resolution. Since it is a tablet, the display swivels around and can then be used in tablet mode. The ASUS has bundled several applications to make the touch experience better for the end user. ASUS calls these applications together as “TouchSuit”.
Here are some applications that are bundled with the TouchSuit:
FotoFun: This is for managing and editing pictures
Memos: This is for jotting down handwritten notes that can be stuck on the desktop
Touch Gate: This lets you switch between different interfaces on the fly (XP Mode, Widget Mode and Touch Mode)
IE Toolbar: This toolbar allows you to easily zoom in/out of web pages using your finger
It weighs just 0.96kg, which is pretty light for a tablet netbook. However, the only thing not to like about it is the non-user replaceable battery.
