At FCC, a new netbook by the name of ASUS EEE PC 1008P-GO has been observed. What makes this version different from the current EEE 1008HA model is the fact that it comes with 3G and Atom N450 (1.6GHz) processor whereas the non-3G model (1008HA) has Atom N280 processor. Rest of the specs appear to be same: 1GB RAM, WiFi b/g/n, 160GB HDD, 2.1 Bluetooth and a 1.3MP Webcam.

ASUS has updated and refreshed its lineup of ASUS Seashell netbooks with Windows 7.
Updated specs:
Eee PC 1101HA – 11.6”, Atom Z520, Windows 7 Home Premium, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 9.5 Hour Battery Life
Eee PC 1008HA – 10.1”, Atom N280, Windows 7 Starter, 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 6 Hour Battery Life
Eee PC 1005HA-H – 10.1” (Matte), Atom N270, Windows 7 Starter, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, 10.5 Hour Battery Life
Eee PC 1005HA-M – 10.1” (Matte), Atom N270, Windows 7 Starter, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, 8.5 Hour Battery Life
Looks like very soon ASUS is going to announce Windows 7-based Seashell netbooks. Current Seashell models (1005HA (299 Euros), 1008HA (399 Euros) and 1101HA (399 Euros) ) are being spotted in some online stores.
The EEE 1101HA is complemented with Windows 7 Home Premium instead of Starter Edition like the 1005HA and 1008HA. Reason being the fact that in most of the countries, it is being sold with Windows Vista Home Premium. Also, looks like all of them will be undergoing HDD upgrades too. 160 GB are things of the past now and 250GB HDD will be used as new standard. Also 2GB RAM will come as default instead of 1GB.
Commentary: ASUS Eee PC currently comes with Windows XP and it is nice that ASUS is on toes in rolling out Windows 7 based netbooks. The Seashell netbooks, especially EEE 1008HA and EEE 1005HA, both have enjoyed enormous success and Windows 7 will make things only better.

I’m sure most of you must have loaded the UBUNTU NBR on your EEE 1008HA just to discover that you are not able to connect to the WiFi network. Well, do not worry. Just follow these steps to get the Internet working:
- Download Ethernet drivers from here from another computer having access to Internet connection and install them on your EEE 1008HA
- Reboot
- Now, on your EEE 1008HA, with Ethernet cable now plugged in, download Wireless drivers by typing this in the terminal:
sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-jaunty
Reboot again and WiFi will now start working.

Alright, so we have completed doing various tests on the EEE 1008HA and we have developed a both love and hate relationship with this slim netbook from ASUS.
We have done plenty of tests on the EEE 1008HA and have played a lot with it from the past couple of days. So, do we recommend buying it? You will be able make your decision for sure after reading this post for sure.
We have tested and reviewed a lot of netbooks so far. However, EEE 1008HA is pretty different from the all the EEE PCs that have been released so far. Here are few points what make it different from the rest of the ASUS netbooks:
- It is hands down the most attractive EEE PC made till date
- It is very slim, which makes it easier to carry around
- Even though it comes with an 10-inch display, it is much shorter in height than the EEE 1000HE and EEE 1000H.
- It has a built-in battery. Most of the EEE PCs come with user-replaceable battery.
- That said, it still manages to provide us with great battery life (see this post for more information)
- Although its keys make a lot of noise while typing, it still has the best keyboard we have seen in ASUS netbooks.
- We absolutely hate carrying the VGA dongle. If you plan to connect your netbook to big screens and projectors, look out for some other netbook with built-in VGA output port

ASUS EEE 1008HA is the first EEE PC with a glossy display. Until now, all the EEE PCs have come with matte display. I have always loved matte screens as it allows me work inside my office as-well-as on the road too. Glossy displays, although look very pretty are a nightmare to work with in the direct sunlight or bulb.
If you have ever seen HP Mini 1000 or any of the mininotes from HP in person, then you will name ASUS as the copycat as it copied the recessed hinge design of the HP Minis netbooks and implemented it in the EEE 1008HA. But who cares? We are happy with the design as it has considerably helped in reducing the height of the design.
Thoughts:
If you have been happy with your notebook with glossy display and you are fine with them even while working outdoors, you should then have no problem with the EEE 1008HA. Personally, I would still prefer matte displays.
