ASUS EEE 1101HA review

The ASUS EEE 1101HA is the epitomization of good looks combined with great battery life. It carries the same Seashell design like its 10-inch brother, EEE 1008HA. But, the ASUS has entering a bit late into the 11.6-inch netbook market, but that does not make it an unattractive deal by any chance. It is a great netbook.

Acer AO751H REVIEW (same as Acer LT3000) (Acer Aspire One 751)

With so many netbook manufactures now breaking into the 10-inch+ screen limit, Acer was no way going to left behind in the business where it actually rules. The Acer A0751H is the first Acer Aspire One to sport an Intel Atom Z 520 processor that is clocked at 1.3GHz. However, the best part of this netbook is its resolution: 1366 x 768 px, which gives it an obvious edge over its competitors. So, was it able to impress us?

MSI Wind U210 – 12-inch netbook using AMD Neo processor

MSI is soon going to release MSI Wind U210 in Europe. Unlike most of the netbooks, this one comes with an AMD NEO processor which is less power frugal than the Intel Atom CPUs. Here are its full specifications:

  • 12.1-inch display
  • 1366 x 768 resolution
  • AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 processor
  • ATI Mobility Radeon X1250 Graphics
  • 1 GB RAM (upto 2GB supported)
  • 160 / 250 GB HDD
  • Wi-Fi (b/g/n) and Bluetooth
  • LAN
  • Windows XP Home or Windows Vista Home Premium
  • 6-cell battery
  • 1.4 kg weight

The Windows XP version will retail at around 399 euros and the Windows Vista version will cost you 449 euros.

We still think that the netbooks with more than 10-inches should not be considered as ‘netbooks’ as they are not as easy to carry around. Also, if you are planning to carry such a big device, why not get a bigger laptop then? After all, the main concept of netbook is to be as portable as possible, but manufactures these days are bent upon releasing netbooks with bigger and bulkier casing.

You are an idiot if you think 11.6 and 12 inch netbooks are not easy to carry around. If 1 or 2 cm more make a difference to you then you are simply a spoiled brat. Most of the 11.6 netbooks can fit into a 10 inch carry case if it weren’t for their slightly larger length so that their batteries can sometimes get in the way.

  2. Kamal DS says:

11.6 inch netbook, for instance, Aspire 751H (review link http://gadgetmix.com/index/acer-ao751h-review-quick-review/) is huge compared to 10-inch models like Aspire D250/D150. D150 infact looks tiny compared to 11-inch models.

..and do not even talk about 12-inch netbooks

  3. Valczir says:

I agree that they shouldn’t be called “netbooks”, at that size, but they’re still easy to carry around. They still fit in the average Joe’s bag, they’re still very light, and they still use power-conscious parts.

I am a programmer and linux database administrator, so these slightly larger netbooks help -me- out in a few ways.

    1) 1024×600 is -tiny-. Seriously tiny. Many things require more screen real estate than that, and the only thing that 1024×600 is actually halfway decent for is -simple- web browsing.
    2) 12″ netbooks have a full-size keyboard. This is nice for development, writing, etc, etc – for obvious reasons.
    3) The one I got, an MSI Wind12 U210, has a more powerful AMD Athlon Neo CPU, which helps it not feel like a sloth compared to my quad core Phenom II desktop, and it also has an ATI video card, keeping it from looking disgusting compared to my GTX 260.
    4) In spite of all of this, it is still plenty small and light to carry around with me wherever I go and gets around 4 hours of battery life, on top of being under $500.

So, yeah, while I agree that they shouldn’t be called “netbooks” at that size (since the word, “netbook”, implies exactly what I first said – that it’s a laptop that’s really only good for browsing the net), I see a use for them. Going to a larger laptop doesn’t give a bonus in screen resolution until you hit the $600+ range, and I really don’t care about the screen size (as long as it has a decent resolution, I’m good). They can be pretty nice little devices.
